1922-2017
Peacefully at the Seeley's Bay Retirement Home surrounded by her daughters on April 13, 2017, after a long and happy life at the age of 94. Predeceased by husband Ralph (1918-1994). Beloved mother of Pamela (Dr. Mark Vigder) of Ottawa, Peggy (Bob McCumber) of Seeley's Bay, Louise "Chip" (Grant Lindsay) of Ottawa. Proud grandmother of Leigh McCumber (David Drouin) of Geneva, Switzerland, Matthew McCumber (Mary Taylor) of Markham, Joseph Vigder (Brittney Roughan) of Halifax, Samantha Vigder (Michael Love) of Toronto, Mark Lindsay of Toronto and Grace Lindsay of Ottawa. Great grandmother of Reese and Max McCumber and Naomi Drouin. Predeceased by her parents, Talmage and Elva Stone.
Dear sister of Dr. Bruce (Nora) Stone of Guelph. Predeceased by brothers Ross and Frank Stone. Fondly remembered by sisters-in-law Marion Stone and Marilyn Stone as well as Mr. Sweet's family, Joan (Mal) Tanton and Betty (Late Gerry) Bildson. Predeceased by Lennus and Iva Sweet, George and Erma Roantree, Jim and Beryl Day.
After teaching, Helen joined forces with her husband in owning Sweet's Food Market, Sweet's Bus Service and Sweet's Sand and Stone. Helen had a life time of exceptional community service and was honoured to receive the Bicentennial Medal in 1984, the Senior of the Year Award from the Township in 1996, The Queen's Golden Jubilee Award in 2002, and the Honourary Patron award from the Legion Branch 491 in 2007.
A Memorial Service in Honour of Mrs. Sweet will be held in Seeley's Bay United Church on Saturday morning, April 15, at 11 o'clock. A reception will be held at the Seeley's Bay Community Fire Hall immediately following the Memorial Service. For those that wish to attend the reception, they may do so from Noon until 3 pm.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to the Seeley's Bay United Church or the Seeley's Bay Library would be appreciated by the family. (cheques for the Library should be made payable to the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands)
